Keep the Kids Busy for the Holidays
with these 6 Activities
While the holidays are full of fun, family, and festivities, they can also be a challenge for parents. Trying to keep the kids busy so they aren’t constantly chiming out those two cringe-worthy words every parent dreads, “I’M BORED” is the mission!
It’s time to bust that boredom with some good old-fashioned fun in and around our community! Keep it Local!
Barrie is home to Snow Valley, where you can grab a tube and the kids for hours of fun family excitement. If snow tubing isn’t quite your style, Snow Valley offers a wide variety of activities for the entire family.
The City of Barrie is teaming up with Tim Hortons to offer FREE public skating as well as other drop in events (for a minimal charge with a donation to the local food bank) during the Christmas break. Skating is a great way to stay fit and have fun. It also helps young children with their coordination. Find out the days and times on the Barrie.ca website.
Just a hop, skip and a jump down the road in Midland, there’s always something fun going on at the Wye Marsh. Hiking the trails, snowshoeing, bird watching, cross-country skiing, workshops and even day camps are all offered.
Bowlerama Barrie provides five and ten-pin fun, as well as cosmic bowling! Grab a group of friends and make an event out of it! They have snacks available and a nice assortment of adult beverages!
Indoor Play Centres
When the weather is just too cold for outdoor activities, why not visit one of the many fun-filled centres in our area? For the kids who love the arcade games, mini putt and laser tag there is Retro Planet which offers over 150 redemption games, earning the kids tickets for exciting prizes. Kids who need to burn off that excess energy can jump it out at Vertical Zone Trampoline Center. You can find more indoor play centers for all ages at http://www.tourismbarrie.com/things_to_do/indoor-activities/Indoor_Games_Fun_for_Kids.aspx
Galaxy Cinemas have movies playing from early afternoon to late evening throughout the holidays. If your kids like animated films, “Ferdinand” is a “G” rated movie about a giant bull with a big heart who was taken from his home and is determined to return.
We live in a winter wonderland here in Southern Georgian Bay. We’ve shared our top six activities for the kids during the holidays, but there are certainly more. Get out there and enjoy the holiday break with the family!
